iPhones save photos as HEIC, which keeps them small and looks great in the Photos app, then fails as soon as a website, a form or a Windows PC is involved. Converting them to JPG fixes that, and it can be done for a whole folder at once.
Stop your iPhone making HEIC
To shoot JPG from now on, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and pick Most Compatible. Photos will take more space. Keeping HEIC and converting when needed is often the better trade.
Private photos stay private
A phone photo can say where and when it was taken. Here nothing leaves your device, so no company ends up with your pictures.
Questions
Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?
Yes. Add them together and they convert as a batch.
Why can Windows not open HEIC?
Windows needs an extra extension for it. Converting to JPG avoids that altogether.
JPG or PNG for iPhone photos?
JPG. PNG would keep every pixel but makes a photo many times larger.
