Start from the problem

The format pages explain what a file is. These start from what is going wrong: a DVD's worth of VOB files, a film with no sound on the TV, photos Windows will not open, a recording that stopped before it finished. Each one answers first and then links to the tool that fixes it.

Questions

Are the tools in these guides free?

Yes. Every tool a guide links to is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on use, because it runs in your browser rather than on a server.

Do I have to upload my files?

No. Every tool on this site works on your own device. That matters for the files these guides are about: family DVDs, voice notes, photos with your location in them.

What if a guide says something cannot be fixed here?

Then it cannot, and the guide says what can. A video that stopped recording before its index was written, or an encrypted DVD, needs a different tool, and pretending otherwise wastes your time.
