Most people want an MP4 for one reason: it has to play. MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound opens on every phone, laptop, TV and messaging app, which is why it is the format to choose when you do not know what will be on the other end.

What to expect

A camera file or a screen recording usually comes out smaller, because H.264 is efficient. A file already compressed hard may not shrink, and converting it again cannot bring back detail that is gone.

A long video takes a while, since your own device does the work. It keeps going with the network off, and nothing has to upload first.

When MP4 is not the answer

If the video is going into an editor, keep the original. If it has several soundtracks or subtitle tracks you want to keep, MKV holds them better. For a web page, WEBM is often smaller.

Questions

Is this MP4 converter free?

Yes, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The file is handled on your device, so the ceiling is its memory, and a phone runs out sooner than a laptop.

Does converting to MP4 lose quality?

Slightly, in most cases, because the picture is re-encoded. Leave the quality at its default and it is very hard to see.
