VTT to SRT converter

Convert WebVTT subtitles to SRT for VLC, TVs, Premiere and other editors, and fix the timing if it is off. Free, instant, and nothing is uploaded.

Last updated

Quick answer: To convert VTT to SRT, add the .vtt file to this page and press Convert. The WebVTT header is removed, lines are numbered and timestamps rewritten in SRT format. It runs in your browser, free, with nothing uploaded.

Where VTT files come from

Web players, online course platforms and caption downloads usually provide WebVTT. Video editors, TVs, VLC on older systems and most subtitle tools expect SRT.

What is lost

WebVTT can carry positioning and styling that SRT has no way to express, such as a line placed at the top of the frame or a colour class. The text and timing come across exactly; that extra layout does not.

Burning them in instead

If the subtitles have to show everywhere, including on phones and social apps that ignore subtitle files, Burn In Subtitles writes them into the picture.

Questions

Why will my editor not import the VTT?

Many editors only read SRT. Converting fixes it without changing any of the text or timing.

Is it free?

Yes, free and unlimited, and the file never leaves your device.
