Compress a video to send by email
Shrink a video under 20 MB so it attaches to Gmail, Outlook and most work email without becoming a cloud link. Free, and nothing is uploaded.
Last updated
Gmail accepts attachments up to 25 MB and Outlook.com up to 20 MB. Work accounts are set by their administrator and are often lower. Aiming for 20 MB gets through all of them, and leaves a little room for the message itself, which is encoded along with the attachment.
Why aim below the stated limit
Email encodes attachments as text, which makes them about a third larger in transit. Providers allow for that in their stated limit, but a mail server along the way may not. 20 MB is a safe target that has been through a lot of inboxes.
When email is the wrong tool
For anything that needs full quality, such as footage for an editor, a shared folder link is better than a compressed attachment. For "look at this", 20 MB is plenty.
