What Boomerang is for

The short looping clip that plays forwards then backwards. It suits a moment with a clear motion in it — a wave, a jump, a door — and nothing that has speech.

How to use it

  1. Add your files. Drop them on the page or choose them. They stay on your device.
  2. Set the output format and quality. The defaults suit most files.
  3. Press convert and save the results, individually or as one ZIP.

Questions

Why is there no visible join?

Because the clip is joined to its own reverse. The last frame going forwards is the first frame coming back, so there is no cut between them to see.

Why is the sound removed?

Audio played forwards and then immediately backwards is unpleasant, and a boomerang is a visual thing. Use Reverse if you want the sound reversed too.

How long should the source be?

One to three seconds. A boomerang plays through at least twice, so anything longer stops reading as a loop and starts reading as a video that went wrong.

Why is my boomerang silent?

Sound played forwards and then immediately backwards is unpleasant, so the audio is dropped. Boomerangs are a visual form.

How long should the clip be?

One to three seconds. The output is double the input, and a boomerang much past six seconds stops reading as a loop and starts reading as a mistake.

Will it loop seamlessly?

Yes, by construction: the last frame forwards is the first frame backwards, so there is no visible join at either end.
