What Image to Text is for
For words trapped in a picture: a screenshot you cannot copy from, a scanned receipt, a photographed page, a diagram with a label you need to quote.

Getting accurate text
Clear, straight, well-lit images read best. Screenshots are ideal. For photos of paper, crop to the text and make sure it is not at an angle; the clean-up option helps with shadows and low contrast.
Layout settings
Choose the page layout that matches the image: a full page of text, a single block, a single line, or scattered text such as a sign or a screenshot of an interface. The wrong one is the most common cause of jumbled output.
What comes out
Plain text, or Markdown that keeps paragraphs. Copy it straight into a document, or save it as a file. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe for receipts, letters and anything personal.
How to use it

Questions
How accurate is it?
On a clean screenshot or a straight scan, very. On a photograph taken at an angle in bad light, much less so. The confidence figure it reports is a fair guide to whether the result is worth trusting.
How do I get a better result?
Give it a larger, straighter, higher-contrast image. Cropping to just the text helps more than anything else, because it stops the recogniser trying to read the surroundings.
Does it handle handwriting?
No. The engine is trained on printed text and will produce nonsense from handwriting.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The recognition engine and its language data are downloaded to your browser and run in the page, which is the whole point for anything with personal information on it.
