Questions
Why will my video not play?
Most often the container index is missing. It is written when a recording is closed properly, so an interrupted recording leaves the frames present but nothing describing where they are. Rebuilding that index fixes it.
Can any broken video be repaired?
No. If the frames themselves are missing or overwritten there is nothing to recover. This fixes damaged structure, not missing data, and it will say plainly when it cannot.
Will repairing lose quality?
The first attempt copies the streams untouched, so nothing is lost. Only if that fails does it re-encode, which costs a little but recovers files the copy could not.
My video plays but cannot be seeked. Is that the same problem?
Yes, a milder version. Browser screen recordings often have no duration in the header, so players show zero seconds and refuse to scrub. Rebuilding the container fixes the seeking.
