Tidy a Screen Recording

Cut the dead air, pick up the pace and crop off the browser chrome.

Cut the dead air, pick up the pace and crop off the browser chrome. Free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no upload: it all runs in your browser.

What Tidy a Screen Recording is for

For the demo you just recorded: the silence at each end while you found the record button, the pace that is slower than anyone wants to watch, and the browser chrome around the part that matters.

How to use it

  1. Add your files. Drop them on the page or choose them. They stay on your device.
  2. Set the output format and quality. The defaults suit most files.
  3. Press convert and save the results, individually or as one ZIP.

Questions

What counts as silence?

A stretch quiet enough to be nothing, at the start and the end. Pauses in the middle are left alone, because cutting them would change the timing of what you were demonstrating.

Should I speed the recording up?

For a software demo, usually. 1.25 or 1.5 times keeps speech intelligible while removing the dead weight of waiting for pages to load.

How do I crop off the browser bar?

Set the crop from the top to the height of the chrome, which is around 90 to 140 pixels on a typical desktop browser. The crop from the bottom removes a taskbar the same way.

Will speeding it up affect the audio?

The audio is sped up with the picture and the pitch is kept, so a voice sounds faster rather than higher.
