Questions
Does muting re-encode the video?
No. The picture is copied through untouched and the audio track is simply left out, so it is nearly instant and the video quality is bit-for-bit identical.
Why not just turn the volume down?
Because the sound is still in the file. Anyone who downloads it can turn it back up, and automated copyright matching will still hear the music. Removing the track removes it.
Can I mute only part of the video?
Not here; this removes the track entirely. Silencing a section means trimming the clip into parts and muting the one you want.
Will the file get smaller?
A little. Audio is usually a small share of a video file, so expect to save a few per cent rather than a noticeable amount.
