What Rotate & Flip Image is for

Questions
Why does my photo look sideways in some apps and not others?
Because the camera stored the picture one way round and added an EXIF orientation tag saying how to display it. Software that reads the tag looks right; software that ignores it looks wrong. Rotating the pixels themselves settles the argument.
Does rotating lose quality?
Turning by 90, 180 or 270 degrees moves whole pixels and loses nothing, provided the output format is lossless. Saving as JPG re-encodes, so the loss comes from the format rather than the rotation.
What is the difference between rotating and mirroring?
Rotating turns the picture; mirroring flips it, so text reads backwards. Mirroring is what you want for a selfie that came out reversed.
Can I rotate a batch of photos?
Yes, all by the same amount. Photos needing different rotations have to be done in separate passes.
