Questions
Does extracting audio lose quality?
The soundtrack inside a video is already compressed, and re-encoding it costs a little more. Choosing a higher bitrate, or a lossless target like WAV or FLAC, keeps that second loss to nothing.
What bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps MP3 is transparent for most listeners. Speech is fine at 96 or even 64. Only go above 256 if the source was high quality to begin with, which for video audio it rarely is.
Can I take just part of the video?
Yes. The trim settings take a start and an end, so you can pull one song or one answer out of a long recording rather than the whole thing.
Which format should the audio be?
MP3 for compatibility with everything. M4A for better quality at the same size. WAV or FLAC if you are going to edit it afterwards.
