Last updated
The digital photo for an Indian passport application is 630 × 810 pixels and no more than 250 KB, as published by Indian missions abroad. This page crops your photo to exactly that and keeps the highest quality that fits.
What the photo has to show
The published guidance asks for a close-up of the head and the top of the shoulders, with the face taking up 80 to 85 percent of the photograph, in colour and unaltered by software.
That last part matters: this page only crops and resizes. Do not retouch or edit the photograph itself.
Why it may still be rejected
Resizing makes the file the right size, not the photo the right kind. Framing, lighting and background are judged separately, so check them against the current rules for where you are applying before you submit.
Where these numbers come from
Checked in October 2026. Rules change with each notification, so the form or notice in front of you always wins.
