Last updated

For the 2026 Civil Services application the photo is a JPG between 20 and 200 KB, and the notice does not fix a pixel size. So this page leaves the shape of your photo alone and keeps as much of its quality as the ceiling allows.

What the photo needs

A plain white background, your face covering at least 75 percent of the photo, both ears visible, and no signature on the photograph.

Rules you may have read elsewhere

Older guides ask for your name and date on the photo, and for one taken in the last ten days. Those are reported as absent from the 2026 notice and portal instructions. Older figures of 300 KB and 1000 × 1000 pixels also still circulate.

Read the instructions for your own exam before you upload: UPSC sets them per examination.

Where these numbers come from

Checked in October 2026. Rules change with each notification, so the form or notice in front of you always wins.
